Michael H. Joynes, M. D. Retired Founder

In 1977, I opened Hampton Family Practice and I am proud of our long history of offering compassionate medical care to the families of the Hampton community. I enjoy offering the full scope of family medicine for my patients, many of whom have been coming to this practice since its beginnings. My clinical interests include: preventive medicine, office dermatological surgeries, gynecology, psychiatry and behavioral health, and geriatrics.

I attended Virginia Polytechnic University, where I received my Bachelor of Science degree in Biology before graduating from The Medical College of Virginia, Richmond with my medical degree. I went on to complete a Family Medicine Residency at VCU Riverside. I am Board Certified by the American Board of Family Physicians.

I am a native of the peninsula and my wife, Barbara, and I have three sons: Mike, Steven, and Kevin. I enjoy reading, exercising and sports, and I plan to take fly fishing lessons.

Joseph Ward Retired Doctor Hampton Family Practice

Joseph L. Ward, M.D. Retired

I graduated from Virginia Tech University, Blacksburg with my undergraduate degree before attending The Medical College of Virginia, Richmond for my Medical degree. I went on to complete a Family Practice Residency at Riverside Regional Medical Center in Newport News. I am also Board Certified by the American Academy of Family Physicians.

Parker R. Stokes, M.D. Retired

A native of Portsmouth, Virginia, I joined Hampton Family Practice in 1978. My scope of practice includes the wide range of family medicine. My clinical interests include treating diabetes and hypertension and explaining about the human body to my patients.

I graduated from Hampden-Sydney College with my Bachelor of Science in Chemistry degree, attended The Medical College of Virginia, Richmond for my Medical degree and completed the Chesterfield Family Medicine Residency Program. I am also Board Certified by the American Board of Family Physicians.

My wife, Susan, and I have two sons. I enjoy science, politics, and knowing how things work.
